Congratulations to Dr. John Gerwin and Dr. John Simmons on their recent retirements.
John M. Gerwin, M.D., F.A.C.S
Dr. Gerwin, native of Iowa, received his B.A. Degree “with distinction” from the University of Iowa in 1968 and his M.D. Degree in 1971 from the University of Iowa. Dr. Gerwin did his internship and residency training at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, completing it in 1976. Dr. Gerwin has practiced Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at ENT Associates from 1976 to the present. Dr. Gerwin has made numerous presentations at state, national and international meetings, including the Medical Association of the state of Alabama, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the Tri-Ological Society. Dr. Gerwin is the author and co-author of many papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Gerwin has earned the Physician’s Recognition Award from the American Medical Association. Dr. Gerwin has received the prestigious Honor Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Gerwin is Board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. Dr. Gerwin’s practice includes nasal and sinus surgery, head and neck surgery, salivary gland surgery, tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, placement of middle-ear ventilating tubes, vocal cord surgery, ear surgery, voice restoration, and general otolaryngology.
John G. Simmons, M.D.
Dr. Simmons, a native of Jasper, attended high school at Indian Springs School in Birmingham. He received his B.S. degree at Washington & Lee University in 1969. Dr. Simmons attended Tulane University School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1973. He continued his residency training in New Orleans, completing his otolaryngology residency at Tulane in 1978. Dr. Simmons received his board certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology that same year.
After completing his residency, Dr. Simmons joined Northwest Alabama ENT in Jasper with his father, the late Dr. John Terry Simmons. He has practiced and resided in Jasper since 1978. Dr. Simmons merged his practice with ENT Associates of Alabama in May, 2002.
Dr. Simmons practice includes all aspects of Otolaryngology, especially medical and surgical treatment of sinus disease, salivary gland surgery, and pediatric Otolaryngology. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and the American Rhinologic Society.
Dr. Simmons is involved in various community activities and organizations. He presently serves on the Board of Indian Springs School. He is on the President’s Cabinet of the Walker Area Community Foundation. In addition to work, Dr. Simmons enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, friends, reading, travel, music and tennis.
